HPS lamps provide satisfactory illumination in most areas. Most commercial 1000 watt high pressure sodium lamps have lumens between 110000 and 130000. Since the advent of LED lamps, most manufacturers have stopped producing HPS bulbs with higher wattage.  

2.Common wattage of LED stadium lights replacing HPS 

LED stadium light technology often exceeds HPS light technology. The new generation of LED modifications provide a more reliable system for the sports industry. Usually 1000W HPS lights are replaced with 600W LED stadium lights. Better positioning is also possible due to lower heat emissions from LED stadium lights.

3.CRI(color rendering index)

Many disadvantages of HPS include a low color rendering index. You’d be hard-pressed to find an HPS lamp with a color rendering index of more than 40. CRI gives you an idea of what an illuminated object really looks like. The higher the CRI level, the better the lighting effect. For televised class matches, you will need to provide at least 90CRI of high-powered stadium lights. Therefore, it is necessary to replace the old HPS lights with efficient LED stadium lights.

2.Beam angle

3.Input voltage

LED stadium light refits absorb more energy when the input voltage is wrong. Higher voltages can cause the power supply and running wires in the lamp holder or adapter to overheat.  

Since LED stadium lights are semiconductor resistors, voltage absorption will vary. This means it doesn’t matter if the replacement uses more or less wattage than the old HID lamp. You need to understand and provide the appropriate input voltage for the replacement to work properly.  

4.The weight of LED stadium lights used to replace the old lamps

Some light poles may not be able to support the weight of the new LED stadium lights.  So you need to check if the new LED stadium lights are too heavy.  

Before you retrofit the entire stadium lighting system, just replace one HID lamp.  Check light poles for any signs of tilt or deviation from vertical angles.
